The Bear and the Honey
48. The Bear and the Honey
Once upon a time, in a lush green forest, there lived a bear named Benny. Benny was a big, friendly bear who had a great love for honey. He often wandered through the woods, searching for beehives to find the sweet treat he adored.
One sunny morning, Benny caught a whiff of honey in the air. His nose twitched with excitement as he followed the scent through the trees. Soon, he stumbled upon a beehive hanging from a branch, buzzing with bees.
“Oh, what a wonderful treasure!” Benny exclaimed. He licked his lips, eager to taste the sweet honey. But Benny knew that the bees would not take kindly to an intruder. He remembered hearing tales of bears being stung while trying to steal honey, and he didn’t want to be hurt.
After thinking for a moment, Benny came up with a clever plan. He decided to approach the beehive very slowly and quietly. He found some wildflowers nearby and carefully picked a bunch. Then, he gently placed the flowers in front of the hive to distract the bees.
The bees, attracted by the bright colors and sweet scent of the flowers, buzzed around them, giving Benny the perfect opportunity to reach the honeycomb. He carefully stretched his paw toward the hive and dipped it into the honey.
“Oh, this is delicious!” Benny said, relishing the sweet taste. Just then, he heard a loud buzz behind him. The bees had noticed their honey was being taken! They quickly turned back toward the hive, furious at the bear for stealing their hard work.
Benny’s heart raced as he realized he had to escape before the bees stung him. He took one last lick of honey and sprinted away, dodging the angry bees as they swarmed around him.
While Benny managed to escape without getting stung, he quickly learned that his greed had almost put him in danger. Sitting beneath a tree, he reflected on his adventure. “I should have been more careful and respected the bees’ hard work,” he thought.
From that day on, Benny decided to find honey in a different way. Instead of stealing it from the bees, he began searching for wild fruits and nuts in the forest. Occasionally, he would even help the bees by planting flowers nearby, knowing they would thrive and produce more honey for everyone.
Moral of the story: Respect the hard work of others and avoid greed. There are better ways to get what you want than taking it from those who have worked for it.
