The Ant and the Grasshopper

 4. The Ant and the Grasshopper

One bright summer day, a grasshopper was happily singing and dancing in the sun. He enjoyed the warm weather and didn’t have a care in the world. As he hopped around, he saw a hardworking ant carrying grains of food to its nest.

“Why are you working so hard?” asked the grasshopper. “Come, relax with me. There’s plenty of time to enjoy the sunshine!”

The ant, pausing for a moment, replied, “I’m storing food for the winter. You should do the same. When the cold weather comes, you’ll need food to survive.”

The grasshopper laughed and said, “Why worry about winter now? There’s plenty of food! I’ll deal with it when the time comes.” Then he continued singing and dancing while the ant went back to work.

As the days passed, summer turned to fall, and then winter arrived. The grasshopper, now cold and hungry, found that there was no food left in the fields. The cold winds blew, and the ground was frozen solid. He went to the ant's nest and knocked on the door, asking for food.

The ant, safe and warm with a store of food for the winter, replied, “I told you to prepare for the winter, but you didn’t listen. Now, it’s too late.”

The grasshopper, ashamed and hungry, realized the mistake he had made.

Moral of the story: It is important to prepare for the future. Hard work and planning today will protect you from hard times tomorrow.
