The Bundle of Sticks
20. The Bundle of Sticks
Once upon a time, there was a farmer who had three sons. They were strong and capable, but they often quarreled and fought among themselves. The farmer worried that if they continued to argue, they would never be able to work together and succeed.
One day, the farmer decided to teach his sons a lesson about unity. He called them together and showed them a bundle of sticks. The sticks were tightly bound together, and he asked each son to try and break the bundle.
The eldest son went first. He pushed and pulled with all his strength, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not break the bundle. Next, the second son took his turn, and he too failed to break the sticks. Finally, the youngest son stepped forward, and despite his best efforts, he could not break the bundle either.
The farmer then untied the bundle and handed each son a single stick. “Now, try to break these,” he said. The sons quickly broke the individual sticks with ease.
The farmer looked at his sons and said, “You see, my dear boys, just as you could not break the bundle of sticks, you will not succeed in life if you are divided. But if you work together, you will be strong and unbreakable, just like the bundle.”
From that day on, the three brothers learned the importance of unity. They stopped fighting and began to work together, supporting each other in their efforts.
Moral of the story: Unity is strength. Together, we can achieve more than we can alone.
