The Cat and the Mice

 27. The Cat and the Mice

Once upon a time in a cozy little house, there lived a clever cat named Cleo and a family of mice. The mice were always wary of Cleo, knowing that she was a skilled hunter. They tried their best to avoid her, but Cleo was determined to catch them.

One day, Cleo came up with a plan. She decided to pretend to be friendly. She lay down on the floor, purring and rolling over, trying to appear harmless. The mice watched her cautiously from their hiding spots.

“Come out, little mice!” Cleo called sweetly. “I just want to play. I promise I won’t hurt you!”

The mice exchanged nervous glances. They were suspicious of Cleo’s intentions but also curious. One brave mouse named Max decided to test her.

“Okay, Cleo. If you want to play, let’s see how good you really are at being friendly!” Max called back. “How about a game of hide-and-seek?”

Cleo, thinking she could outsmart the mice, eagerly agreed. “That sounds fun! You hide, and I’ll count to twenty!”

As Cleo began to count, the mice scurried away to find the best hiding spots. Max found a little nook behind a shelf, while the others squeezed into tiny corners. Cleo finished counting and began searching for them, pretending to be playful and innocent.

However, she soon realized that the mice were much better at hiding than she expected. Frustrated, Cleo tried to act like she was giving up. “Oh, where could you all be? You’re so good at hiding! Maybe I should just give up and find a snack instead.”

Hearing this, the mice started to giggle quietly. “She thinks she can trick us,” whispered Max.

Finally, one clever little mouse had an idea. “Let’s make a noise to confuse her!” he suggested. They all squeaked together, making it sound like they were hiding in different places.

Cleo, hearing the different sounds, became more confused and frustrated. Just then, she realized that the mice had outsmarted her! They had used teamwork to turn the game against her.

Feeling defeated, Cleo decided to retreat. “Fine! You win this time, little mice! But I’ll be back!” she said as she slinked away.

The mice cheered, celebrating their cleverness. They learned that sometimes, teamwork and quick thinking can outsmart even the cleverest of foes.

Moral of the story: Unity and cleverness can help you overcome challenges, even when faced with seemingly unbeatable opponents.
