The Crab and Its Mother
33. The Crab and Its Mother
Once upon a time, on a sandy beach, there lived a young crab and its mother. The little crab admired its mother and wanted to walk as gracefully as she did. However, every time the young crab tried to walk in a straight line, it ended up scuttling sideways, just like all the other crabs.
Frustrated, the young crab said to its mother, “I want to walk straight like you! Why can’t I do it?”
The mother crab smiled and replied, “You need to practice, my dear. But remember, every crab walks sideways. It’s in our nature.”
The little crab wasn’t satisfied. “But I don’t want to be like everyone else! I want to be perfect!”
“Perfect is not about being like everyone else,” the mother crab explained patiently. “It's about being true to yourself and embracing who you are.”
Determined to prove her wrong, the young crab practiced day after day, trying hard to walk straight. But no matter how hard it tried, it could only move sideways.
One day, after another unsuccessful attempt, the little crab was feeling quite disheartened. It approached its mother and said, “I’ll never be able to walk straight like you. I’m just a sideways crab.”
The mother crab hugged her child gently and said, “Sweetheart, it’s okay to be yourself. Embrace your unique way of moving. You are perfect just the way you are.”
With newfound confidence, the young crab decided to stop trying to be something it wasn’t. Instead, it embraced its sideways walk and learned to be proud of it.
The little crab discovered that being true to itself brought joy and acceptance, both from itself and from others. It scuttled along the beach, happily playing with its friends, who all admired the little crab's energy and spirit.
Moral of the story: Embrace your uniqueness and be true to yourself; there is beauty in being different.
