The Farmer and His Sons
8. The Farmer and His Sons
Once, there was an old farmer who had worked hard on his land for many years. He had three sons, but they were always quarreling and could never agree on anything. This worried the farmer, as he knew that unity was essential to the success of their farm.
As the farmer grew old and weak, he realized he would not live much longer, so he decided to teach his sons a valuable lesson. He called them together and showed them a bundle of sticks tied tightly together.
"Try to break this bundle," the farmer said, handing it to his eldest son.
The eldest son tried with all his strength but could not break the bundle. Then the second and third sons tried, but they also failed to break the sticks.
The farmer then untied the bundle and handed each son a single stick. "Now try to break them," he said.
Each son easily broke his stick in half.
The farmer looked at his sons and said, "You see, my sons, if you stand together like the bundle of sticks, no one will be able to break you. But if you quarrel and stay divided, you will be as weak as the individual sticks."
From that day forward, the sons understood the importance of unity and worked together to manage the farm successfully.
Moral of the story: Unity is strength. Working together makes us stronger, while division makes us weaker.
