The Greedy Dog

 43. The Greedy Dog

Once upon a time, in a quiet little village, there lived a dog named Max. Max was a cheerful and friendly dog, loved by all the villagers. He enjoyed playing fetch, rolling in the grass, and, most of all, eating delicious food.

One day, Max was out for his daily walk when he caught a whiff of something mouthwatering. His nose twitched with excitement as he followed the delicious scent. To his delight, he found a juicy bone lying on the ground.

“Oh, what a great find!” Max thought, his tail wagging in delight. He picked up the bone and ran home, eager to enjoy his treasure. But on his way, he had to cross a narrow wooden bridge over a stream.

As Max crossed the bridge, he glanced down into the water and saw his own reflection. The sunlight glinted off the surface, making it look like another dog was holding a bigger, shinier bone.

“Wow! That bone looks even better than mine!” Max thought, his eyes widening in greed. “If I can get that bone, I will have two bones instead of just one!”

In his eagerness, Max decided to bark at the reflection. “Hey, you! Drop that bone!” he barked, hoping to scare the other dog into giving up his treasure.

But as he opened his mouth to bark, the bone he was holding fell from his grasp and plopped into the stream. Max watched in horror as his delicious bone sank below the water, disappearing from sight.

Realizing what he had done, Max felt a wave of sadness wash over him. He had lost his only bone because of his greed. “Oh no! I was so foolish!” he lamented. “I should have been happy with what I had instead of being greedy for more.”

From that day on, Max learned to appreciate what he had. He no longer coveted what others had, and he was much happier for it.

Moral of the story: Greed can lead to losing what you already have. Appreciate what you possess instead of longing for what others have.
