The Milkmaid and Her Pail

 23. The Milkmaid and Her Pail

Once upon a time, in a quaint village, there lived a young milkmaid. Each day, she would milk her cow and fill a large pail with fresh milk. One sunny morning, she decided to take her pail of milk to the market to sell.

As she walked, the milkmaid began to daydream about all the things she would do with the money she would earn. “With this milk, I will make a nice profit,” she thought. “I’ll buy a dozen eggs, and from those eggs, I’ll raise a whole flock of chickens. Soon, I’ll have plenty of eggs to sell!”

As she continued walking, she imagined all the money she would make from selling the eggs. “With all that money, I can buy a beautiful new dress for myself. Everyone will admire me!”

Lost in her daydreams, she tossed her head proudly, thinking about the admiration she would receive. “And when I wear that dress, all the boys in the village will notice me! They’ll be falling over themselves to win my affection!”

But just then, the milkmaid made a sudden movement and accidentally tipped the pail. The milk splashed everywhere, spilling out onto the ground. She gasped in shock as she watched all her plans vanish along with the milk.

Feeling sad and regretful, the milkmaid realized that she had gotten carried away with her dreams and had not paid attention to what she was doing.

Moral of the story: Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. It’s wise to stay grounded in reality and not get lost in daydreams.
