The Crow and the Cheese

 The Crow and the Cheese

Once upon a time, there was a clever crow named Clara who was always on the lookout for tasty treats. One sunny afternoon, as she flew over a bustling village, she spotted something delicious sitting on a windowsill—an exquisite piece of cheese!

Clara’s eyes sparkled with delight as she swooped down to get a closer look. The cheese was golden and looked soft, just waiting to be eaten. However, she knew she had to be careful. There were many animals in the village, and she didn’t want to be caught.

After making sure the coast was clear, Clara landed on the windowsill. She picked up the cheese with her beak and flew away to a nearby tree, where she could enjoy her prize in peace.

Just as she settled down on a branch, a sly fox came wandering through the forest. He noticed Clara perched on the tree with the cheese in her beak. The fox’s stomach growled as he eyed the tasty morsel.

“Good day, dear crow!” the fox called out sweetly, tilting his head and pretending to be friendly. “What a lovely piece of cheese you have! You must be the most beautiful and talented bird in the forest.”

Flattered by the fox’s compliments, Clara felt her pride swell. “Thank you, Mr. Fox! I do believe I have the most beautiful voice in the forest too!” she replied, puffing out her chest.

The cunning fox, seeing an opportunity, continued, “Ah, but a bird as beautiful as you must also sing beautifully. Would you honor me with a song? I’d love to hear your lovely voice!”

Clara, eager to show off her talents and bask in the fox’s praise, opened her beak wide to sing. But as she began to sing, the piece of cheese slipped from her beak and fell straight down to the ground!

The fox quickly snatched the cheese with a quick snap of his jaws. “Thank you for the lovely treat, dear crow!” he said with a sly grin before scampering away.

Realizing she had been tricked, Clara felt embarrassed and foolish. “Oh no! I let my pride and vanity get the best of me,” she lamented.

From that day on, Clara learned to be wary of flattery and to remember that true worth comes from within, not from seeking approval or attention from others.

Moral of the story: Be careful of flattery; it can lead to foolish mistakes. True wisdom lies in humility and self-awareness.
