The Lion's Share

 The Lion's Share

Once upon a time, in a vast and lively jungle, a group of animals decided to hunt together to catch a large prey. The animals included a clever fox, a hardworking donkey, a wise old turtle, and, of course, the king of the jungle—the lion.

After much discussion, they set off to find food. Finally, they managed to catch a great buffalo. The animals were thrilled and began to discuss how they would divide the meat fairly among themselves.

The lion, however, had other ideas. He strode forward, showing off his powerful form and said, “I will take the first share, as I am the king of this jungle. After all, it was my strength that helped catch this buffalo!”

The other animals were taken aback but didn’t want to upset the lion. They nodded in agreement, albeit reluctantly.

After taking his share, the lion then said, “Now, I’ll take the second share because I led the hunt.” The animals were confused but remained silent, fearing the lion's wrath.

Finally, the lion declared, “And I’ll take the third share because I roared the loudest!” With that, he devoured another portion.

By this time, the animals felt they had no choice but to accept the lion’s demands. The fox, being clever, finally spoke up and said, “But, great king, that leaves no meat for us!”

The lion glared at the fox, but the clever animal continued, “We helped catch the buffalo. Shouldn’t we have a say in how it’s divided?”

The lion, growling in irritation, replied, “If you don’t like my rules, you are free to leave.” He then took the remaining meat for himself and let out a mighty roar, asserting his dominance.

The animals realized that they were at the mercy of the lion and his selfishness. They quietly left, feeling disheartened and robbed of their hard work.

Later that day, the wise old turtle spoke to the group. “We must learn from this experience,” he advised. “Though the lion is powerful, we cannot allow ourselves to be bullied. We must work together in the future and find a way to stand up for ourselves.”

From that day forward, the animals vowed to unite against any creature who would try to take advantage of them. They learned the importance of teamwork and standing up for fairness, and they promised to choose their companions wisely.

Moral of the story: Might does not make right. Those in power should act justly, and it is essential to stand up for what is fair, especially when working together.
